Description

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) program was established in 1983 by The White House and is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The award is the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 mathematics and science (including computer science) teaching. Established by Congress, the PAEMST program authorizes the President to bestow up to 108 awards each year. The program identifies outstanding mathematics and science teachers, kindergarten through 12th grade, in each state and the four U.S. jurisdictions. These teachers serve as models for their colleagues and are be leaders in the improvement of science and mathematics education.

 

Awardees are recognized with a certificate signed by the President of the United States and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation received during an award ceremony that is the culmination of a week-long recognition week that includes special events and professional development opportunities.
