Description
By the authority of the Administration on Community Living (ACL), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Elder Justice Coordinating Council (EJCC) was convened. The EJCC's mission is to coordinate the activities related to elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation across the federal government. The EJCC was mandated by the Elder Justice Act of 2009 as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act signed into law by President Barack H. Obama.
The Elder Justice Act names the Attorney General of the United States and the Secretary of Health and Human Services as co-chairman and permanent members. The statute provides for inclusion as council members the heads of each federal department, agency or governmental entity identified as administering programs related to abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation.
